CM Standards: Is the Action Around Taxonomies?

It seems everyone wants to be "standards-compliant," but in the Web CM space, what does that really mean? XML is a great flag to rally around, but does not alone guarantee ease of interoperability. Look a little deeper though, and you'll see movement around taxonomies. For example, the Software & Information Industry Association's (SIIA) recently launched Market Data Definition Language (MDDL) Version 1.0. MDDL provides a generic XML-based format and glossary needed to describe financial instruments, corporate events, and market related indicators.
