Updated search vendor evaluations

This week, we've updated all 20+ of our search vendor evaluations. My colleague Adriaan Bloem -- who obsessively tests search tools and interviews end-users of search systems -- re-examined our ratings of the vendors' specific functionality, such as linguistic analysis, early- and late-binding security, scalability, tunability, and 20+ other areas.

Even more importantly, though, we rate how search tools perform against particular use cases, such as departmental search, multi-repository enterprise search, e-discovery, website search, e-commerce, and others. We've never been believers that there's a "best" vendor or tool, but we do see trends of certain types of tools and/or vendors performing well (or poorly) in particular scenarios.

Subscribers can log in and see how the tools compare. If you have any questions about our search research or need help picking a new search tool (or are thinking about how to imporve upon your current implementation), don't hesitate to let me know.

Our customers say...

"I've seen a lot of basic vendor comparison guides, but none of them come close to the technical depth, real-life experience, and hard-hitting critiques that I found in the Search & Information Access Research. When I need the real scoop about vendors, I always turn to the Real Story Group."
