Smarter Desktops

Desktop applications for Web publishing are getting smarter by encompassing more "management" features typically found in server-based CMS packages. Witness Macromedia's forthcoming "Contribute" product. It's not a CMS, but it can help authors contribute content more easily to non-database driven sites, especially those that use Dreamweaver templates. In short, it can serve as a kind of stepping stone to a full-blown CMS for those with tight budgets and a mostly static page model. We think this will pinch lower-end vendors, and push the mid-market to add more value in areas like syndication, workflow, and content re-use....
