More trouble for search vendor Surfray

[update 2/25/2010] This post was written early 2009. Since then, SurfRay has continued business under new management and investors. For the latest news, see https://www.realstorygroup.com/Blog/Product/MondoSearch.

Surfray, the company that acquired Mondosoft after the latter's bankruptcy, continues to encounter heavy weather itself. What the vendor subtly describes as a "Change of operating business entities in Sweden" actually means the Swedish subsidiary (Surfray AB) of the Danish company (Surfray A/S) filed for bankruptcy.

As mentioned on its website, the Swedish subsidiary had already been cut back to one representative, who will continue to represent Surfray in Stockholm. For now, you can still turn to Surfray for Mondosearch and Ontolica.

However, letting a subsidiary go bankrupt isn't the most elegant way of restructuring your company, and it's indicative of the vendor's struggle. For now, you can still get the products and receive support -- but it's anyone's guess for how long that will last.

Our customers say...

"I've seen a lot of basic vendor comparison guides, but none of them come close to the technical depth, real-life experience, and hard-hitting critiques that I found in the Search & Information Access Research. When I need the real scoop about vendors, I always turn to the Real Story Group."
