Blogging for the Masses Will Impact Corporate CMS's

We are at another interesting turning point in Internet history. Blogging is about to be made available to the masses, as Terra Lycos and even AOL start offering free or very low-cost blogging tools. Reminds us of when AOL opened up a mail gateway to the rest of the Internet, to the chagrin of traditionalists who liked their nice, ordered subculture (of listservs especially), but to the ultimate benefit of all. When people start blogging en masse at home, they are going to go to work in the morning and demand two things: better KM tools on their Intranets, and better publishing capabilities for their public websites. "If this is so incredibly easy for me at home," the more communicative staffpeople will ask, "then why is it so damn hard for me to get my part of our company's public site updated?" Mass blogging will be a boon especially for CMS vendors targeting the SME market. But they should be ready for demands for blog-like features in their products...
