Battle for the Windows-based CMS Mid-Market, Continued...

RedDot and Microsoft frequently go head-to-head in competitions for Windows-based web CMS packages in the mid-market price/feature range. Microsoft has not -- as many analysts predicted -- come to dominate this market. Now RedDot is waving a report from a Canadian consulting partner, InterDoc, showing RedDot's solution scoring substantially higher than MS CMS 2002 (InterDoc is also a Microsoft partner). We don't agree with the vast disparity InterDoc found. Part of the issue is methodological: InterDoc didn't take a look at some key considerations, like XML and Web Services support, and missed a few MS CMS benefits in other areas, like localization. But the point here is that RedDot presents a highly plausible and frequently attractive alternative to Microsoft. The two products are actually rather different, and both perform certain functions very well. As always, do your homework...
